MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS VISIT TO ROMANIA

In the meeting between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar and Romanian Foreign Minister, Mr. Mihai Razwan Ungureanu on 19 July in Bucharest, the two sides agreed to exchange series of ministerial visits to explore new avenues to harness synergies and complementaries in the economies of the two countries. They agreed to the early convening of the Joint Government Commission to review the economic and trade relations with a view to ensuring further process. During the talks, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.

Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar arrived in Romania on 17 July 2006 to hold the second round of political consultations with his Romanian counterpart. During his talks with the Romanian side, Makhdum Khusro discussed the entire gambit of bilateral relations, focusing on trade. In particular, he identified emerging opportunities in the oil sector, energy generation and IT for mutually beneficial cooperation.

In response to Pakistan's invitation, Minister of State, Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar was informed that Romanian President Traian Basescu would pay a state visit to Pakistan on mutually convenient dates sometime next year. Also, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs would be visiting Pakistan to continue the dialogue and to prepare the ground for Presidential visit.

The Minister of State addressed the Pakistani community at the Pakistan Embassy and shared with them government's development projects and measures to increase trading links with the European countries. He appreciated expatriate community's positive role in promoting Pakistan's commercial and business interests abroad.
