PAKISTAN'S REACTION TO US NATIONAL
INTELLIGENCE ESTIMATE
When asked to comment on the issuance of
the latest US National Intelligence Estimate, the Spokesperson
said that while acknowledging Pakistan’s important role in
fighting terrorism, some unsubstantiated assertions have been
made.
Pakistan is determined not to allow Al-Qaeda
or any other terrorist entity to establish a safe haven on
its territory. In fact, Pakistan has done more than any other
country to weaken and destroy Al-Qaeda. Pakistan continues
to take effective action against any remnants of Al-Qaeda
and other terrorists and extremist elements. We would firmly
act to eliminate any Al-Qaeda hideout on the basis of specific
intelligence or information. It does not help simply to make
assertions about the presence or regeneration of Al-Qaeda
in bordering areas of Pakistan. What is needed is concrete
and actionable information and intelligence sharing.
Pakistan has been combating terrorism first
and foremost in the interest of peace, stability and economic
development in the country. We have also been cooperating
with the international community in countering the menace
of terrorism and have made a pivotal contribution in this
regard.
In fighting the scourge of terrorism and
extremism, Pakistan is following a comprehensive strategy
that combines the political, administrative, economic approach
and military action where necessary.
Our position is very clear that any counter-terrorism
action inside our territory will be taken by our own security
forces. This is the basis of our cooperation. We have deployed
troops, established check posts and done selective fencing.
Any further action that needs to be taken against terrorist
elements will be taken. There should be no doubt about our
commitment to fight terrorism and extremism and not to allow
our soil to be used by terrorists.
