IQBAL CHAIR IN UNIVERSITY OF SARAJEVO

Ceremony for establishment of Iqbal Chair was held at the University of Sarajevo on 28th August 2008. President of Bosnia, Dr. Haris Silajdzic, graced the occasion. Vice President Spomenta Micic, various heads of diplomatic missions, renowned clerics, scholars, literary figures and students also attended the ceremony. This will be the first Iqbal Studies department established in the Balkans or Southeast Europe. A lecture hall named “Iqbal Lecture Hall” was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, in his address, highlighted the universality of his message of peace, faith and harmony. He lauded the well known Bosnian scholars associated with Iqbal Chair and expressed his appreciation of the ongoing projects for translating Iqbal’s poetry, philosophical works and critical essays on him. He assured them of Pakistan’s support to all these projects as well as for lectures and international conferences on Iqbal that the new department is planning to organize.
