U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION CALLS ON THE PRESIDENT
A 3-member Congressional delegation led by Congressman Gene Green called on President Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi today. Discussions covered bilateral relations, including matters relating to economic and counter-terrorism cooperation.
The President underlined Pakistan 's commitment to a closer and broad-based relationship with the U.S. He reiterated Pakistan 's firm resolve to fighting terrorism and extremism. In this regard, he underscored the importance of a comprehensive, multi-pronged counterterrorism strategy. The President appreciated Congressional support for Pakistan 's counterterrorism initiatives, such as the establishment of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs), FATA Development Plan and FC capacity building. He underlined the need for greater market access for Pakistani products in the U.S.
The visiting Members of Congress conveyed their support for a strong and broader relationship with Pakistan . They appreciated Pakistan 's commitment to fighting terrorism extremism while reaffirming their support for Pakistan 's social development goals.
The bipartisan delegation led by Congressman Gene Green (Democrat-Texas) includes Congressman Mike McCaul (Republican-Texas) and Congressman Henry Cuellar (Democrat-Texas).
