FOREIGN MINISTER QURESHI MEETS WITH AFGHAN FOREIGN MINISTER
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with His Excellency Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Foreign Minister of Afghanistan at the UN headquarters in New York . Building on their earlier contacts in Islamabad and Kabul , the two Foreign Ministers exchanged views on further enhancement of friendly and cooperative bilateral relations between the two countries. They agreed that the two democratically elected governments should continue to work together to address the common threat posed by terrorism and extremism and to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region for the collective benefit and prosperity of the peoples of the two countries. They reiterated condemnation of the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul , Islamabad and Karachi . The two Foreign Ministers later addressed the UN Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan .
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan , Mr. Kai Eide. The Foreign Minister conveyed Pakistan 's appreciation and support for the important role of the United Nations in coordinating the international community's efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan . He also requested the United Nations to play a more proactive role to assist with the repatriation of Afghan refugees form Pakistan .
