15 TH NAM MINISTERIAL MEETING
The 15 th NAM Ministerial Meeting will be held in Tehran , Iran on 29-30 July 2008. The two day Ministerial Meeting will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting on 27-28 July. The theme of the Tehran Ministerial Conference is “Solidarity for Peace, Justice and Friendship.” The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was founded in 1961 at the Belgrade Conference. It has currently 118 member states. NAM is a voice of the developing countries.
Pakistan joined NAM in 1979 and has since participated in all its Summit and Ministerial Conferences. Over the years, Pakistan has maintained a high profile in the activities of the organization. Pakistan believes that the Non-Aligned Movement has made an admirable contribution in the past to the cause of freedom and liberty, to the struggle against colonialism and racial discrimination. Pakistan has advocated the need for the Movement to continue to promote peace and economic development amongst its member states.
The 15 th Ministerial Conference will be focusing on a number of issues of interest to Pakistan . These include terrorism, reform and expansion of the UN Security Council, disarmament, peaceful settlement of disputes, self-determination, human rights, global economic situation and food security.
