FOREIGN MINISTER QURESHI CALLS ON AFGHAN PRESIDENT HAMID KARZAI

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai during his visit to Kabul today. President Karzai welcomed the Foreign Minister warmly and held a very cordial meeting with him.

Foreign Minister Qureshi said that his visit was a message from the elected Government of Pakistan that a new beginning has been made in relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan which will be based in mutual trust and understanding for each other's interests and concerns. He reassured President Karzai of Pakistan 's support for peace and security in Afghanistan .

President Karzai expressed support of the Afghan Government to the elected Government of Pakistan in its endeavours for regional peace and stability.

President Karzai spoke at some length about abiding and mutual interests of Pakistan and Afghanistan . He said events in one country affect the other, and prosperity and stability is one is not possible without prosperity and stability in the other. He also thanked the Foreign Minister for Pakistan 's significant assistance to Afghanistan 's reconstruction efforts and extending hospitality to Afghan refugees on its soil.
