FOREIGN MINISTER MAKHDOOM SHAH MAHMOOD QURESHI MEETS SECRETARY GENERAL UNITED NATIONS BAN KI-MOON
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon in Paris today. The Foreign Minister is visiting Paris to attend the International Conference in Support of Afghanistan .
The UN Secretary General lauded Pakistan 's contribution to the UN peace keeping operations. Pakistan is the largest contributor to the UN peace keeping efforts with over ten thousand peace keepers in thirteen peace keeping operations.
The Secretary General said the UN counted on Pakistan 's support and cooperation in its efforts for return of peace and security to Afghanistan .
The Foreign Minister referring to Pakistan 's request for an international probe into the tragic assassination of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, said the national and provincial parliaments have unanimously called for the establishment of an independent investigation commission under UN auspices to identify the culprits, perpetrators, organizers and financiers of this heinous crime.
The Secretary General acknowledged the receipt of Pakistan 's request through the Permanent Representative and said it was being studied by the UN legal experts. The Secretary General said he was looking forward to the Foreign Minister's visit to New York for further consultations.
