FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF OIC SECRETARY GENERAL ON JAMMU AND KASHMIR

 

Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir, who is on a two-day visit to Muzaffarabad and Islamabad, called on Foreign Minister of Pakistan Makhdoum Shah Mahmood Qureshi, today. 

The Foreign Minister and Ambassador Mufti exchanged views on recent developments on Kashmir issue. The Foreign Minister stated that situation in Indian-held Kashmir is of great concern. The Foreign Minister said the recent uprising in Kashmir is entirely indigenous and response by the Indian security forces to it has created a difficult situation for the Kashmiri people. They are being subjected to economic blockade and excessive use of force. He said Pakistan supports a negotiated settlement of the Kashmir dispute. He expressed appreciation for the support and solidarity of the Muslim Ummah for the Kashmir cause. 

Ambassador Mufti reiterated OIC’s support to the just cause of the Kashmiri people as well as the peace process between Pakistan and India.  He appreciated the Confidence Building Measures between the two countries in an effort to alleviate sufferings of the Kashmiri people. 

The Foreign Minister appreciated the efforts of OIC Secretary General and Special Representative on Kashmir for their strong and consistent support, which had been a source of inspiration for the Kashmiri people.  He underlined the need for a result-oriented dialogue aimed at resolution of all issues between the two countries including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Mufti expressed the hope that the newly elected democratic government would continue its political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiri people.
