FOREIGN MINISTER QUERSHI MEETS WITH SWEDISH FOREIGN MINISTER
On the sidelines of the FODP Ministerial Meeting in Istanbul, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a useful bilateral meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.
The two Foreign Ministers reviewed the substantial progress thus far made within the FODP process. Foreign Minister Qureshi apprised his Swedish counterpart on the vision of the Government of Pakistan to make FODP an efficient and result-oriented vehicle of Pakistan-led process in conformity with Pakistan's national development priorities. The two Foreign Ministers expressed the hope that the forthcoming FODP summit in New York, to be co-chaired by President Obama, Prime Minster Brown and President Zardari will be a resounding success.
The two Foreign Ministers expressed satisfaction on the Pakistan-EU Summit held in Brussels on 17 June 2009. Foreign Minister Qureshi underscored the need to institutionalize the Summit process and to provide market access to Pakistan on preferential terms in order to support Pakistan's economy. The two Ministers also reviewed bilateral relations and the situation in the region, especially the post-election situation in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan-India relations.
The Swedish Foreign Minister assured Foreign Minister Qureshi, Sweden's continued support and assistance to democratic Pakistan.
