FOREIGN MINISTER QURESHI MEETS FOREIGN MINISTER OF CANADA
On the margins of the Istanbul FODP Ministerial Meeting, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Canada, Mr. Lawrence Cannon.
The two Foreign Ministers reviewed the substantial progress thus far made within the FODP process. Foreign Minister Qureshi apprised the Canadian Foreign Minister on the vision of the Government of Pakistan to make FODP a result-oriented platform to achieve viable, long-term socio-economic development of Pakistan.
The two Foreign Ministers expressed the hope that the forthcoming FODP Summit Meeting in New York, to be co-chaired by President Barack Obama, Prime Minster Gordon Brown and President Asif Ali Zardari will be a great success.
The Canadian Foreign Minister supported the concept of Public-Private Partnership underlining that this should be explored with a view to promoting foreign direct investment in Pakistan especially in the areas of Energy and exploitation of minerals and other natural resources.
The two Ministers also reviewed bilateral relations and the situation in the region, especially the post-election situation in Afghanistan
The Canadian Foreign Minister assured Foreign Minister Qureshi, Canada's support and assistance to democratic Pakistan.
