FOREIGN MINISTER'S BILATERAL MEETINGS IN NEW YORK
Meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met his Malaysian counterpart Y.B. Datuk Anifah bin Haji Aman on 26 September on the sidelines of the 64 th session of the UN General Assembly.
The two Foreign Ministers exchanged views on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
They agreed to convene the Joint Economic Commission meeting on an early date. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the participation of Malaysian entrepreneurs in the first meeting on public-private partnership being held in Dubai in January 2010.
Foreign Minister Y.B. Datuk Anifah bin Haji Aman extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quershi for the D-8 meeting being held in Kuala Lumpur in early November. The Foreign Minister accepted the invitation.
Foreign Minister meets Foreign Minister of Senegal
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio of Senegal on the sidelines of ongoing UN General Assembly session on 26 September 2009.
The two Foreign Ministers reviewed the status of bilateral economic and trade relations. They agreed that the two sides have considerable potential for cooperation in trade, agriculture and educational sectors.
Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio thanked Pakistan for providing training to Senegalese diplomats. He requested for training facilities in agriculture and banking sectors. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan had a pool of highly trained agriculturists and would be happy to share its expertise with Senegal .
The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on reform of the UN Security Council.
Foreign Minister meets with Belgian Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quershi met Mr. Yves Leterme, Foreign Minister of Belgium on the sidelines of the UNGA session in New York on 26 September.
The two Foreign Ministers exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi sought Belgian help for market access to Pakistani products in the EU market.
The Belgian Foreign Minister appreciated the effective law enforcement action and success of Pakistani forces against militants and violent extremists in Malakand Division.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also briefed his Belgian counterpart on the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan-India bilateral relations.
