2nd session of Pakistan-Turkmen Intergovernmental commission

 

The Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Mr. Rashid Meredov led a 7 member delegation to Pakistan on 24-25 August, 2010 to attend the 2nd Pakistan-Turkmenistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission at Islamabad. The Pakistani side was led by the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan. The meetings were held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in trade and commerce, oil & gas, power sector, and in the fields of agriculture, education, healthcare, science and technology, sports and tourism. Visa facilitation for Pakistani businessmen was also discussed during the session. It was agreed to establish joint working groups in the area of trade and commerce, power sector and agriculture sector. A Protocol was signed at the end of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission by both the co-chairmen. The Turkmen side expressed keen desire for early finalization and implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline project. In addition to this, the Turkmen side offered to supply 1000 MWs of electricity to Pakistan. The Turkmen delegation called upon the President, the Prime Minister and also met the Foreign Minister and the Petroleum Minister. Effective implementation of the decisions taken at the 2nd Joint Ministerial Commission will lead to substantial improvement in our bilateral relations.
