The International Task Force on Afghanistan of the Century Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation called on Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. The International Task Force was jointly led by Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, former UN Special Representative for Afghanistan and Iraq and Mr. Thomas Pickering, former US Ambassador.
Both sides discussed the latest situation of Afghanistan and prospects for peace, security and economic development. The Foreign Secretary stressed that it was important for the international community to stay engaged in Afghanistan with the view to achieving the objectives as declared by the recently-held Kabul Conference. He said Pakistan was committed to continue playing a constructive role towards achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led process. He briefed the delegation of the recent positive developments in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. He also apprised the delegation of Pakistan’s efforts for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and capacity building of Afghan institutions.
