SOCIAL SECTOR ASSISTANCE TO BANGLADESH “PAKISTAN’S SPECIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME FOR SOUTH ASIA (SAP-SA)”




Pakistan takes keen interest in the social sector development of Bangladesh and has provided assistance to the tune of 40 Million Rupees for Health and Education sectors of Bangladesh since 2005. Computer Lab Centres have been established in more than 30 educational institutions across the country. Ambulances and specialized medical/surgical equipment have been provided to various hospitals. A computerized Brail centre has been established at the School for Blind Children. Similarly, a multipurpose “Allama Iqbal” Auditorium is being constructed in Bogra. Support has also been provided to Army Welfare School for Handicapped Children as well as Naval Welfare School for Handicapped Children.

In this context, the High Commissioner, Mr. Alamgir Babar inaugurated a Computer Lab at Sangbadik Abasik Elaka School in Mirpur Dhaka on 23rd May 2009. It was a gift by the Pakistan High Commission to Dhaka Journalists Housing Cooperative Society which owns and manages the School. Mr. Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Editor, the New Nation and President, Dhaka Journalists Housing Cooperative Society thanked the High Commissioner for the valuable gift and said that the Computer Lab will impart computer literacy to the students of five elementary and secondary schools and women colleges located in the area.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the members of the Journalists Housing Cooperative Society and headmasters and principals of Sangbadik Abasik Elaka School, Good Earth School, Kalsi Islamia High School and Shaheed Zia Mohalla College. The Pakistan High Commissioner in his address said that the gift of computer lab was in line with the policies of the Bangladesh government for a digital Bangladesh. He hoped that apart from students, the working journalists living in the Society premises would also use this facility for their professional work.
