Iqbal Day

(2017-11-10) The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka organized "Iqbal Day" in the chancery. The function was held to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, which drew a large number of guests including diplomats, journalists, intellectuals, eminent Banladeshi nationals, and members of Pakistani community. Head of Missions from Maldives, Qatar, Indonesia, Spain,Turkey and Iran also attended the ceremony.

2. Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner said that Iqbal's philosophical thoughts culminated in creation of separate homeland for the Muslims of subcontinent. In his concluding remarks he said, "although his dream for an independent Muslim state could not materialized in his life time he nevertheless, has for eternity indebted millions and continue to lead Muslim thought through his work".

3. A young Bangladeshi scholar Miss Ayesha Siddika, spoke in Urdu on the concept of Khudi. Another guest speaker, Mr. Ershad Majumder, a local poet being an authority on Rumi captivated the audience by his remarks on Iqbal. The Ambassador of Iran HE Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi was invited as guest of honour. He cast light on the life of Allama Iqbal.

4. The High Commissioner and Iranian Ambassador together had a cake cutting ceremony of 140th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
