Visit of Dr. Sania Nishtar, Pakistan's candidature for the post of Director General, World Health Organization (WHO), to Czech Republic

(2017-05-10) On 10 May 2017, Dr. Sania Nishtar and Ambassador Dr. Israr Hussain held meetings with Ms. Eva Gottvaldova, Deputy Minister of Health and Mr. Miloslav Stasek, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czech Republic at Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs to solicit confirmation of Government of Czech Republic for candidature of Dr. Sania Nishtar in the 2nd round of elections, scheduled to be held in last week of May 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Deputy Ministers welcomed Dr. Nishtar and expressed pleasure at her presence in Prague.

Dr. Sania Nishtar conveyed her gratitude to the Deputy Ministers for meeting. She commended Czech Republic, on its best health performance indicators not only in the EU but also on a global level. She said that Czech Republic is an important member of Visegrad group (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) and can play a very crucial role in the health sector on a global level.

Mr. Miloslav Stasek said that Czech Republic was closely following the candidature of Dr. Nishtar. He informed that he had listened speeches of Dr. Nishtar and extended felicitations to Dr. Nishtar on her success in first round of elections.

Ambassador Dr. Israr Hussain stated that Pakistan has launched candidature of Dr. Sania Nishtar primarily due to her experience in relevant discipline, philanthropic work and her ability to translate her agenda into reality and requested confirmation of the Government of Czech Republic at the earliest. He emphasized that her presence in Prague was the testimony to the importance attached to Czech Republic by Pakistan.

Deputy Ministers extended their best wishes for Dr. Nishtar's candidature and hoped that she would be successful in her campaign.
