Six Pakistanis from Oman Secure OPAC Memberships

(2017-07-26) Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) in its Board meeting led by Chairman Board of Governors (BoG) in Islamabad yesterday, has approved 20 nominees from 9 countries, including 6 from the Sultanate of Oman, to the Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council (OPAC).

HE Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minster of Pakistan' vision to promote regional peace and national integration is dovetailed by his stated policy of "peaceful neighborhood" and 'Inclusion of Overseas Pakistanis in Policy Formulation', practically substantiated with his presence in Maldives as Chief Guest on National Day coinciding with OPF BoG proceedings on OPAC.

Prime Minister's initiative has provided an unprecedented impetus to vertical and horizontal structural organization of OPAC, previously restricted to 4, now mustering 137 Overseas Pakistanis, a new BoG with a first ever, elected Chairman in place of Minister for OPF. UK-based Chairman BoG Barrister Amjad Malik highlighted that Prime Minister deems Pakistani expatriates as roaming Ambassadors and accords highest priority to them.

On this landmark occasion, the Ambassador of Pakistan in Oman HE Ali Javed has extended felicitations to Pakistani community for securing substantive representation on OPAC and acknowledged support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, OPF and Chairman BoG OPF.

OPAC members from Oman include Syed Muhammad Rizvi, Chairman Al Burkan Contractors specializing in Security Systems, Mohammad Yaseen Bhatti Managing Partner 'Stars Light' with 70% share in lighting in Oman, Mian Riaz, who established 'Mohammed Riaz & Partners' a building materials company and 'Home Mart', whereas Barrister Taimoor Malik established Oman's largest Law Firm 'Curtis Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle', in 2014.

OPAC also includes Chaudhary Ashraf and Syed Fayyaz Shah, both attained Omani nationality, with Mr. Ashraf establishing Beacon House School in Oman in addition to his Trading Company whereas Mr. Shah has established 'Abu Reem Trading' in Real Estate & Construction.

OPAC members from Oman (except Barrister Taimoor Malik) have 40+ years of stay in Oman whereas Ch. Ashraf holds the distinction of the longest serving Pakistani since August 5, 1961.

Chairman BoG visited Oman in April 12, 2017 and met with the entire spectrum of Pakistani Community. On July 2, he hosted a Reception for OPAC nominees in Islamabad. OPAC members shall serve a tenure of 3 years with mandate to rendering advice on policy formulation, relay sentiments of Pakistanis and project soft power of Pakistan.

There are 271,143 Pakistanis currently residing across Sultanate of Oman (NCSI Oman, March 2017), accounting for 5th place globally. Pakistan Community here is well integrated, disciplined and stands united in support for Pakistan-Oman Friendship.
