H.E. Mr. Tariq Azim Khan, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Ottawa presented letters of Credence and Recall to H.E Honourable David Johnson, Governor General of Canada

(2015-10-27) H.E. Mr. Tariq Azim Khan, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Ottawa, presented the Credentials to H.E. Right Honourable David Johnson, Governor General of Canada, at an impressive ceremony at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, on 27 October 2015.

Ms. Chantal Chastenay, Deputy Chief of protocol of Canada, introduced the Head of Mission-designate with his brief biography. After that the Governor General received the letters of Credence and Recall and gave a welcome speech.

The Governor General congratulated Mr. Tariq Azim Khan on his appointment as High Commissioner for Pakistan and said that it was a pleasure to welcome him back to Canada after several previous visits. He noted that Mr. Azim's varied and interesting career in both the public and private sector would enhance his ability to excel as High Commissioner. He further said that Canada highly values its relationship with Pakistan as people-to-people ties between the two countries are very strong as for more than one hundred years members of Pakistani community have greatly enriched this country.

Mr. Azim conveyed to the Governor General greetings from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Mr. Tariq Azim Khan, along with his Consul Generals, remained with the Governor General for some time.

The Governor General recalled his last visit to Pakistan in 1980 and conveyed his good wishes to the country. The Governor General offered his condolences on the strong earthquake that was felt in northern Pakistan and said that the People of Canada extend their sympathies to all those who are struggling in its aftermath.

At the end of the ceremony there was a reception and a tour of the historic Rideau Hall.

Later H.E. Mr. Tariq Azim Khan hosted a reception at Pakistan House which was attended by Members of Parliament, senior officers from DFATD, diplomats and friends of Pakistan in Canada.
