(2015-05-06) The Pakistan National Day Reception was held here in Singapore on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Hosted by the High Commissioner of Pakistan, the reception was attended by a large number of Singaporean officials, businessperson, diplomats and prominent members of expatriate Pakistani community. The reception was originally scheduled for 23rd March 2014 but was postponed due to the sad demise of Singapore's founding father, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew on March 23. Singapore Minister of State for Defence, H.E. Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman graced the occasion as Guest of honour.

In his welcoming remarks, the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Tanveer Akhtar Khaskheli, highlighted the importance of Pakistan Resolution of 23rd March 1940 in creation of Pakistan. Highlighting the achievements of the present government particularly in the fields of science & technology, defence production, women empowerment and IT, the High Commissioner said that much has been achieved over the years but a lot needed to be done.

Highlighting the historic perspective of Pakistan-Singapore relations, the High Commissioner said that Golden Jubilee of Pakistan-Singapore diplomatic relations next year will be celebrated in a befitting manner. The High Commissioner said that relations between the two countries have grown from strength to strength and that both the countries cooperate and work closely at bilateral and multilateral levels in regional fora and understand the interests of each other. He pointed out that the leaders and officials of both the countries interact regularly and that people to people contacts are growing tremendously. The High Commissioner particular mentioned that the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Singapore has grown from S$1.42 billion in 2013 to S$1.72 billion in 2014. He mentioned that a large number of Singaporean companies and businessmen have shown interest in working with Pakistani business houses. The High Commissioner also appreciated the role of Pakistani community working in Singapore for its contribution to the social and economic progress of the country.

The Guest of Honour, H.E. Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman in his address highlighted strong friendly ties between Pakistan and Singapore and appreciated the role of Pakistani community in the economic and social progress of Singapore.

National anthems of Pakistan and Singapore were played on the occasion.
